Chippewa Flowage 2010

Mona keeps her eyes glued to the bobber in anticipation of it going down.

John brings the boat to the landing so we can load it up in preparation of leaving the next morning.

Brew - The Poodle had a good time on Vacation too

Pictured here is Brew. He is a fairly neat dog. Notice the napkin he uses after his treats.

Brew says: Merry Christmas

Brewster (the 65 pound lap dog) says MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody.

He's pictured here helping Mona decorate the Christmas Tree this year.

Brew doesn't help much, but he likes to supervise.

Chippewa Flowage Vacation 2009

First I'm going to show you that we did actually catch some fish while staying at the Chippewa Pines Resort this year. I think we brought two or three meals back which is plenty of fish for us for a while. We can always get some on Shawano Lake if we really, really need fish. Not only that - you can buy it in the store too... although it doesn't taste the same. Mona was on a roll one day. This is one of the Bass she caught and released.
John caught this Largemouth on his favorite spinner. The fish seem to like it too, sometimes... The Resort has a pontoon boat that they rent out. We rented it one year when my Mother came along for the week (just for one day) and had a blast. That particular day it rained off and on and it was nice to be under the canopy.
A small northern pike on the same lure. We caught plenty of crappie too as you will see if you continue to follow these posts.
Poor Brew... Mona told the pet groomer to take a little more of his poof off this time when she groomed him. It looks like she put the proverbial bowl on his head after she hacked the rest of it off first. The last photo in this group shows how heavy his head is even after having all his hair cut off. You'll see later that he likes to rest his chin on things. He does it at home all the time.

You Leave My Old Fashion Alone!!!

Pictured here is Brew eyeing up my Old Fashion. Evidently he has a heavy head already because he's resting it on the window ledge.

Don't you think for a minute that he got a taste of it either. Actually he has a habit of resting his head in the window ledge to look out the window.

Brewster the Watch Dog

On Sunday, September 28 was Mona's birthday but in stead of being to go out and do something to enjoy ourselves we were doomed to stay home to can tomatoes from the garden.

While we were busy in the kitchen I happened to look over into the living room and notice ole Brewster with his head propped on the window watching the birds in the bird feeder as well as the neighbors across the street.

This is one of his favorite places to lay down and relax. His stuffed toy is the octopus next to him. Mona's stuff Moose are on the rocking chair.

Brew and Mona Go Fishing

Brew is not a good fisherman when it comes to keeping still in the boat. As Mona throws and retrieves the bobber, Brew has to be right there. He fell in once and got his first swimming lesson as Mona was pulling him closer to the boat with the leash he still had connected to his collar. Then she had to get him in the boat so he could shake himself off and get everything wet. He still didn't settle down. At least the smaller poodle we had before this one would have been good Musky bait... I think this guy's too big!

Poodle Hog Day February 2, 2008

Today was "Poodle Hog Day" in Cecil, WI. (Not to be confused with "Ground Hogs Day" This long-time tradition which began early this morning on a whim for the first time at about 9:30 will determine how long we will have to continue to endure this cold and snowy winter.

Obviously the Poodle Hog did not burrow his way out of a hole in the frozen ground but we're not that scientific in Wisconsin. Actually he had to be coaxed and bribed out of the warm house with treats in order for us to complete this experiment.

If you click on the photo above to enlarge it, you will see that "Brew" the "Poodle Hog" (French that is.) was unable to detect a shadow since we are currently in the middle of a mild snow storm. (Some more partly cloudy that we'll have to shovel.)

By preparing for and by taking the time and effort to perform this experiment we have determined that winter should be ending soon in Cecil. (And no... Mona was not blocking the sunlight!)

Please Note: For those who are doubters, the actual photo has been filed in a private vault so that anyone can see that it has not been altered.

Brewster Mescalero

This is Brewster Mescalero ("Brew" for short) our 2 1/2 year old Standard Poodle.
He likes to sit by the windows in the house and watch the birds, rabbits, squirrels, gophers and anything else that moves out there. He'll drive anyone nuts when he runs from room to room checking all the windows as he trys to follow his prey.

Mona took Brew to obedience class for a while at Packerland Kennel Club and he listens to simple commands most of the time. (Well, some of the time.) They competed in some competition at one of the classes against some of the other pets and they even won a trophy.

He doesn't get to go fishing with us too often but when he does, he likes to give the fish kisses before we release them back into the water. He's only fallen out of the boat once or twice so far, not like our first Poodle that fell in the lake every time we went out. We finally had to buy him a life preserver.
